Erica's Movie Reviews: Yes man

Film: Yes Man
Starring: Jim Carrey

Why is he a Jim and not a James? Anyway,

B+/B

Erica's Thoughts:

Funny, cute movie. Widely appealing. Feel good movie.
Good balance of drama and comedy. Carrey is not too over the top in this one. Secretly metaphysical, yet entertaining.

Rhys Darby, as "Norman," with his Michael Caine-esque looks, and Michael Scott-esque need to be a 'boss buddy', is subtlely and awkwardly funny.

Not to sound like an afterthought, but Zooey Deschanel is quite lovely as well.

Erica's Questions:

During the scene where Deschanel and Carrey's characters sing "Money Can't Buy Me Love," why does Deschanel's character do nothing but background vocals? Where is the egalitarianism in this relationship?

Final Thoughts:

This movie was well done. It did it's job. However, it's not slap stick, wacky funny. It's more subtle than that. It's like a slight upgrade of Bruce Almighty, slight downgrade of 40 Year Old Virgin. I recommend seeing it though. Carrey delivers a nice performance.

Totally agree that this one slips right in somewhere between being better than "Bruce Almighty" and not quite as good as "The 40-Year-Old Virgin"...surprisingly good.
